The Steyr Pro Hunter has been an iconic rifle for a long time now. It has stood the test of time and is highly regarded as one of the best hunting rifles around. The combination of design, performance, and ruggedness makes it an outstanding choice for big game and varmint hunters alike.
I recently had the pleasure of taking the Steyr Pro Hunter out in the field for a full review and here is what I have to report.
To start off with, the design of the Steyr Pro Hunter is simply outstanding. It has an overall length of 46 inches and weighs just 6.7 pounds, making it one of the lightest big-game and varmint rifles on the market. It packs a lot of features and goodies into a compact size. This rifle looks and feels great in the hands. The stock is made from a high-grade polymer and is extremely comfortable, even with lots of shooting. The bolt handle and charging handle are anodized metal with knurling for better grip and good feedback. The safety is located behind the trigger and is easy to reach and operate.
The Pro Hunter also has some great features for long-range shooting. The barrel is 22 inches long and is made from 4140 chromoly steel. The barrel is button-rifled and crowned at the muzzle. This combination provides a great balance between accuracy and performance. The trigger is a two-stage, adjustable unit and can be set up to exactly the desired pull weight. Finally, the Pro Hunter comes with a 3-round magazine and can easily accept other Steyr magazines in 5, 10, and 20-round capacities.
When it comes to performance, the Steyr Pro Hunter does not disappoint. The accuracy was exceptional, and I was able to consistently get groups of less than one inch at 100 yards with factory ammunition. It was also notably soft-shooting and I didn’t notice the recoil as much as I did with other hunting rifles. I also appreciated the smooth and reliable break of the trigger. It was easy to stage and the reset was predictable.
When I took the Pro Hunter out in the field, it performed just as well as on the range. It handled a variety of hunting situations with no complaints. It was not prone to jamming, which is always a good thing. It fed smoothly from both the magazine and single-loaded rounds. The ergonomics of the rifle were great and I was able to bring it up to the shoulder without any issues or soreness.
All in all, I can’t say enough good things about the Steyr Pro Hunter. It is an excellent choice for both novice and experienced hunters alike. The Pro Hunter is an incredibly well-made rifle that offers excellent accuracy, reliability, and performance in a package that is both reliable and reasonably priced. I would highly recommend the Steyr Pro Hunter for anyone looking for an outstanding hunting rifle that will last for years to come.
Pros
Cons
Anyone who needs a reliable and accurate rifle for hunting or sport shooting should consider a STEYR PRO HUNTER. The rifle features a 3-position adjustable trigger, high-quality barrel for accuracy, and synthetic stock for improved weather resistance. It is a great rifle for target shooting, or small game hunting, like varmint or other small predators.
However, those who want a rifle for long-range shooting or precision benchrest competition should look at other options. The STEYR PRO HUNTER is designed for hunting and sport shooting, and may not achieve the same accuracy levels or precision needed for long-range shooting.
