The Ruger Precision Rifle (RPR) is a revolutionary new bolt-action rifle that has quickly become one of the most popular firearms in the firearms community. While the RPR is similar in function to many other precision rifles on the market, it stands out from the crowd due to its innovative design and excellent performance. The RPR is well-suited for long-range shooting, as well as competitive shooting, hunting, and even tactical applications. In this review, I will dive deep into the features, accessories, and performance of the Ruger Precision Rifle to help you decide if it’s the right gun for you.

FEATURES

The Ruger Precision Rifle offers a fully adjustable stock with dual locking lug and four adjustable cheek risers, adjustable length of pull with a rubber recoil pad, and an adjustable buttplate to customize the fit. The rifle also includes a five-round detachable box magazine, Ruger's Marksman Adjustable trigger, and a three-lug bolt. The RPR is chambered in .223 Remington, 6.5 Creedmoor, and .308 Winchester, offering the ability to customize the rifle for specific shooting needs. The barrel has 5/8x24 threaded muzzle with a Ruger Precision Rifle Hybrid muzzle brake, and the rifle also offers an integrated 20 MOA Picatinny rail.

Accuracy

One of the primary focuses when designing the RPR was to squeeze the most accuracy out of the rifle, and the results speak for themselves. The long, heavy barrel ensures a low muzzle flip with even the heaviest recoiling rounds, and the three-lug bolt makes for smooth operation and a sturdy lock-up. The adjustable trigger allows for a personalized break with minimal creep and no over-travel. Add a good scope and some great ammunition and the RPR will easily produce consistent sub-MOA groups.

Reliability

The Ruger Precision Rifle is also incredibly reliable, with no misfires or internal failures reported during testing. The three-lug bolt design is based on Ruger’s iconic 10/22, and is smooth operating and reliable in all conditions. The five-round mags are made to the same standards as their other high-end magazines, and have proven very reliable under heavy use. The external controls are well placed and built to take abuse.

Accessories

The Ruger Precision Rifle can be accessorized to fit a variety of shooting scenarios. The rifle comes with a twenty MOA rail for mounting your favorite optics, but there’s also a variety of aftermarket options for additional rail length and even specialty accessories like suppressors. The barrel accepts both muzzle devices and has the standard 5/8x24 thread pitch, so you can customize the look and feel of your rifle. For hunting, the RPR also accepts a wide selection of AI-style magazines from Ruger and other brands, and the included bipod mount makes adding a good bipod a breeze.

Shooting Experience

The RPR is comfortable to shoot thanks to its adjustable stock. Once you’ve dialed in the right fit for you, the rifle balances well in your shoulder and doesn’t throw your aim off when shooting from various positions. The adjustable trigger is a great addition, allowing for a consistent, light break every time. The heavy barrel absorbs most of the recoil, and the muzzle brake helps reduce muzzle rise even further.

Overall

The Ruger Precision Rifle is an outstanding rifle, far exceeding expectations. It offers excellent accuracy and reliability, as well as an adjustable stock for a personalized fit. The three-lug bolt and five round mags are proven performers, and the muzzle brake and adjustable trigger help squeeze out as much accuracy as possible. The RPR also accepts a wide variety of aftermarket accessories, making it an incredibly versatile rifle. Whether you’re shooting competitively, hunting, or just plinking, the Ruger Precision Rifle is a great choice.

Who Should Buy

Anyone with an interest in buying an accurate and reliable rifle should consider a Ruger Precision Rifle (RPR). The RPR is an excellent choice for target shooting, long-range precision shooting, and hunting and is available in many configurations that are likely to meet the needs of any potential rifle buyer.

People who are not experienced with firearms, or who lack the necessary training, should not buy any firearm – let alone a Ruger Precision Rifle. A firearm is a dangerous tool and should only be operated by a properly trained and knowledgeable person.

It’s precision-machined, cold hammer-forged barrel and adjustable stock, trigger and safety make this rifle capable of extreme accuracy, even at long distances. With factory ammunition and the right shooter, the RPR can consistently produce 1 moa or smaller groups out to 500 yards and beyond.
