Having spent some time with a Kimber 84M Classic in my hands, I must admit it’s an impressive piece of firearms craftsmanship. Right out of the box, I was pleasantly surprised at the robust quality of the rifle, from the walnut wood furniture, all-steel construction and cushy recoil pad. It’s quite an attractive rifle too, with its satin finish on the barrel and receiver providing a level of sophistication that I found hard to ignore.
The mechanics of the gun are no less impressive. It’s chambered for .308 Winchester rounds and utilizes a Mauser-type action, featuring a flat action profile, 4-round magazine and a controlled-round feed system. The action has a low bolt throw and a full-length claw extractor, making the cycling of the bolt as smooth and trouble-free. This is great for quickly getting the gun into action for hunting, target shooting and even competitive shooting competitions.
The trigger of the Kimber 84M Classic is as impressive as its action, featuring an adjustable three-position trigger and a smooth pull. The trigger breaks at just over three pounds, which I found delightful. The trigger also has a zero overtravel, so you can be precise with your shots and not be bothered by creep. The gun is also outfitted with a full-length, glass-bedded aluminum stock and a jeweled yellow-bead front sight for quick, accurate target acquisition.
The overall function of the gun is also top-notch. I had no trouble shouldering the rifle, and the felt recoil was well managed thanks to the thick, well-cushioned recoil pad. I was also pleasantly surprised by the accuracy of the gun. In my time shooting with it, I was able to easily and consistently hit steel targets at 100 meters, and even managed some decent hits in the 300-meter range.
The only downside of the Kimber 84M Classic is its price. With an MSRP of $1,399, it’s definitely on the more expensive side, especially when compared to some more budget-friendly offerings from other manufacturers. However, in my opinion, the extra cost is worth it for the quality, reliability and accuracy that you’re getting.
In conclusion, the Kimber 84M Classic is an excellent rifle that provides a solid shooting experience. The Robust build quality and reliable Mauser-type action makes it a great choice for all types of shooting activities, including hunting, target and competition shooting. The adjustable trigger and jeweled sights provide good accuracy, while the full-length stock and thick recoil pad make for an ergonomic feel when shooting. The only downside is the price, but if you’re looking for a quality rifle that won’t let you down, the Kimber 84M Classic is worth the investment.
