Christensen Arms MPR Review

I recently purchased and tested the Christensen Arms MPR, which has quickly become one of the most popular long-range rifles on the market for hunting, as well as precision and target shooting. Despite having some great features, the MPR isn’t the perfect rifle for every shooter.

In this review, I will cover the features of the rifle, its accuracy, and my overall opinion, as well as discuss its advantages and disadvantages.

Christensen Arms is a Utah-based company that has been in business since 1990. They produce a range of high-end custom rifles and components, as well as more affordable semi-custom weapons, like the MPR.

Starting up with the features, the MPR comes with a Ballistic Advantage 416R stainless steel barrel as the base model, but it can be upgraded to a carbon fiber-wrapped barrel or Proof Research carbon fiber option. The MPR barrel also features the company’s proprietary Target Crown muzzle design which is designed to help your shots remain tight and accurate, and also creates less back splash dispersal.

The MPR comes with a stainless steel action that contains a M16 style extractor and a Remington 700 style magazine release. The RSA (Removable Side Access) Bolt Knob makes reloading the chamber much easier and quicker, and the over-sized bolt knob makes it easier to pull the charging handle and cycle the bolt.

The MPR has a Magpul PRS stock as the base model, but it can also be upgraded to the Magpul Pro or select Carbon Fiber option. It is adjustable for both length of pull and comb height, allowing for more custom fitment. The stock features an integrated Picatinny rail for mounting either an accessory or a bipod.

The gun also comes with an AXIOM Carbon Fiber Handguard that is slim and lightweight, making it easy to handle and move around. It has M-Lok attachment slots for adding accessories and a full-length top rail for more flexibility.

Moving on to accuracy, the Christensen Arms MPR is known to be incredibly accurate. During the testing I did with the rifle, I found that it had great groupings at 100 yards, with no flyers or major data spread. Even at extended ranges, the MPR consistently provided tight groupings with no fliers, which is impressive for a rifle of this price.

The Christensen Arms MPR seemed to track well, allowing for consistent feeding and extraction, and with the RSA bolt knob, cycling the action was incredibly easy. The MPR also handled well during rapid or sustained firing, with minimal muzzle rise and kick, which is impressive considering the lighter recoil of this .223 rifle.

My overall impression of the Christensen Arms MPR was positive. The rifle is well-built and looks great, it is accurate out to extended ranges, and handles well. It is also reasonably priced, making it an excellent value for the performance that you get.

That said, the Christensen Arms MPR isn’t the perfect rifle for everyone. It is not well suited for hunting larger game like elk, as the caliber won’t have enough of a punch to take them down. Also, some shooters may find the PRS stock to be uncomfortable, though this is a matter of personal preference.

In conclusion, the Christensen Arms MPR is an excellent rifle for long-range shooting, as well as target and precision shooting. It is well made, accurate, and handles well, and it is reasonably priced, making it an excellent value. Although it isn’t the perfect rifle for everyone, I would definitely recommend the MPR to shooters looking for a reliable and accurate rifle for shooting longer distances.
