700 ADL is a turn-based, real-time strategy game developed for PC by strategy game developer and publisher Burnt Sky Games. The game was released on October 3rd, 2019, and is the company’s first commercial title, making it an interesting proposition for the strategy game community.

The game is set in a post-apocalyptic medieval era, detailing the fight for survival by a handful of desperate survivors in these dark times. The game starts out giving you the choice of either the human faction or the orcs as your starting faction, with both having their own unique, distinct play styles and advantages.

The most notable feature of this game is its unique blend of turn-based and real-time strategy elements. Players are able to move and command their units in real time, while giving them access to more complex strategic options and planning on a turn-by-turn basis. This allows players to plan out and set up more intricate strategies than they normally could in a typical real-time strategy game.

The game follows fairly simple rules, but the more you play the more you begin to uncover its complexity and depth. The game is designed around managing resources and strategic planning. At the start of the game, the player can select up to 3 resources (wood, food, gold and stone) to build an economy. Throughout the game, players must manage these resources in order to build up their forces, produce items, and construct buildings. What makes this part of the game interesting is that the resources can only be gathered through participation in battles, exploration and looting, dictating how and where to deploy forces, as well as how to use what resources are available to the fullest.

The game also features an interesting in-game economy, where currency is determined by war and the successful capturing of enemy territories. Money can be used to hire troops and purchase upgrades, while it can also be exchanged for resources or traded with other players. This adds another layer of complexity to the game, allowing for a unique twist on the usual game of ‘build-up-your-army-and-conquer’.

The gameplay is fast-paced and easy to learn, though it quickly becomes very challenging as you progress. This keeps the game interesting and exciting, and encourages exploration and experimentation with different strategies. This is a great feature, as it allows each player to come up with their own style through unique units and tactics, leading to highly competitive matches.

Graphically, the game is quite impressive. The visuals and animations for each unit and structure are detailed and smooth, making the game a visually appealing experience. It also provides a great atmosphere with its sound design and music, lending to a more immersive feel.

The biggest complaint with 700 ADL, however, is the lack of content. With only 7 different maps, 4 factions and 5 missions, the game quickly becomes repetitive and can lead to boredom after only a few hours of play. There is also no multiplayer option, forcing players to either play against the AI or find opponents online through third-party gaming sites.

In conclusion, 700 ADL is a great title for strategy game enthusiasts, but may fall a bit short of expectations for the more demanding players. Its innovative blend of turn-based and real-time strategy elements create unique and interesting gameplay scenarios, while its visuals and sounds create an atmospheric and immersive experience. But with limited content and no multiplayer, the game may struggle to hold the attention of those looking for longer-term engagement. Despite this, at its current price point, 700 ADL is still a great purchase for anyone interested in strategic gaming.
