The SIG Sauer P226 X-Five is an extremely impressive firearm. I recently had the opportunity to take it out on the range and put it through its paces and I can attest to its quality and performance.
This full-sized 9mm handgun is a single-action semi-automatic pistol with an ambidextrous frame. It is designed for competition shooting, IPSC, USPSA, and 3-Gun competitions.
First and foremost, the X-Five exudes quality. The standard version comes with an adjustable target trigger that allowed for a superior level of accuracy and control. The trigger had minimal take-up and a crisp break. I was also very pleased with the factory match barrel that came with the pistol. I have shot many other handguns with match barrels, but the one on the X-Five was very impressive. For those who are looking for even more accuracy potential, the X-Six variant of the pistol comes with a six-inch barrel.
The X-Five also features a lightened slide which allows for higher cycle rates. This extra weight produces less recoil, making it easier for the user to keep the pistol on target during rapid-fire exercises. Additionally, the X-Five features a beavertail style grip, allowing for a higher grip on the gun, which is essential in competition shooting.
The pistol also features a 5-inch target barrel, making it incredibly accurate. I was able to make consistent hits at 25 yards with this gun, and I was quite impressed with its precision. The pistol also has adjustable target sights, making it ideal for competitive shooters.
On the range, the X-Five was a pleasure to shoot. Its ergonomic design helps to reduce felt recoil, and the gun was very manageable and enjoyable to shoot. The slide release felt smooth and the magazine release was easy to operate. The sights were easy to adjust and the magazine had a witness mark, allowing me to quickly load and identify how many rounds were loaded.
Overall, this is an excellent firearm. It is well built, accurate, and it runs flawlessly. It is perfect for competition shooting and IPSC, and the adjustable triggers make it even more versatile and controllable. I highly recommend the P226 X-Five to any shooter looking for a high-end handgun.
