When it comes to handguns, one brand that consistently shows up in the conversation is SIG SAUER. Although SIG SAUER has been around since the late 18th century, they truly have made a splash in the modern world of gunsmithing with the release of their ultra-compact CCW pocket pistol, the SIG SAUER P365. Combining lightweight portability, advanced trigger technology, and a variety of features, the P365 is one of the most popular handguns on the market today. In this review, I hope to provide potential customers an in-depth look at SIG SAUER’s flagship firearm and offer my own thoughts and opinions on it based on personal experience.
Design and Construction
The SIG SAUER P365 is an extremely compact, lightweight, striker-fired pistol chambered in 9mm. The overall design of the gun is based on the tried-and-true single-stack polymer frame and slide configuration; however, the P365 takes it one step further with its unique size and portability. The gun measures just 5.8 inches in length and has an overall weight of just 17.8 ounces when unloaded. Considering the fact that the gun comes with two 10-round magazines, as well as an optional 12-round extended magazine, the gun is remarkably svelte and easy to carry.
The gun’s frame and slide are made from a durable stainless steel alloy, and all exterior metal components are coated with a corrosion-resistant Nitron finish. The P365 also features a host of modern ergonomic features to make carrying and shooting as comfortable as possible. These features include a picatinny rail for accessories, a low bore axis for more comfortable recoil mitigation, and an undercut trigger guard which aids in faster and more ergonomic draw. The P365 also features SIG SAUER’s XRAY3 day/night sights which are arguably the most advanced and technically advanced sights on the market today.
Performance and Trigger
The P365 features a trigger unlike any other on the market in terms of its overall feel and performance. The trigger is a clean-breaking, short-reset, flat-faced trigger marketed as a “Short Reset Trigger” by SIG SAUER. This trigger allows for fast and accurate follow-up shots earning the gun the title “most intelligent CCW available”. The trigger itself is made from polymer and is adjustable in both travel distance and trigger weight.
Another impressive aspect of the P365’s performance is its accuracy. SIG SAUER designed the gun with Sig’s “Extreme Low Bore Axis” which makes the gun inherently comfortable to shoot, and in turn, more accurate. In my experience, this bore axis technology serves as an essentially free upgrade when it comes to accuracy of the gun.
In addition to its accuracy, the gun also features a patent-pending takedown system that makes it easy to disassemble and clean. This takedown system utilizes a small tab located above the trigger guard. Once this Tab is pulled, the slide will unlock and the gun can be easily cleaned by removing the slide assembly.
Overall Opinion
Overall, I have been thoroughly impressed with the SIG SAUER P365. Despite it’s small size and weight, the gun is remarkably capable in the accuracy and stability of its performance. The triggers excellent modified break allows for fast and accurate follow-up shots, while the recoil mitigation features make the gun incredibly comfortable to shoot. Lastly, the takedown system is as simple and efficient as one could hope for making it easy to maintain and clean.
For me, the SIG SAUER P365 is the perfect pocket pistol. It is small enough that it can fit in almost any pocket or in any bag, making it perfect for concealed carry. This, combined with its superior accuracy and smooth trigger performance, make the P365 one of the best handguns on the market today. With all this in mind, I can confidently give the SIG SAUER P365 my highest recommendation for anyone looking for an ultra-compact, yet durable and reliable handgun.
Pros:
-Lightweight and small: The SIG SAUER P365 is a slim and lightweight pistol, making it easy to holster and carry.
-High magazine capacity: It has a 10-round magazine capacity as well as a 12-round extended magazine available, giving you more rounds between reloads.
-Accurate and reliable: The P365 is well-known for its accuracy and reliability.
-Durability: Its corrosion-resistant stainless steel construction ensures long-lasting durability and longevity.
Cons:
-Expensive: The SIG SAUER P365 is on the more expensive side when compared to other concealed carry pistols.
-Recoil: It has a rather aggressive recoil which, depending on the shooter, might be off-putting.
-Manual safety: The P365 does not come standard with a manual safety, which some shooters may prefer.
Anyone who is legally and responsibly able to purchase a firearm should consider buying the SIG SAUER P365. It is a popular handgun for personal protection and recreation due to its small size, reliability, and numerous safety features.
People who should not purchase the Sig Sauer P365 are those who are not legally, mentally, or emotionally prepared to own a handgun; those who are not properly trained in handgun safety; and those who are not financially prepared to purchase a firearm.

The SIG Sauer P365 is widely regarded as one of the best-shooting concealed carry pistols on the market. This is due to the gun's small size, light weight, and many features that have been designed to improve its accuracy. The gun's smooth trigger pull, low bore axis, ramped 3.1-inch barrel, and snag-free design all contribute to better control and accuracy, even for inexperienced shooters. SIG Sauer claims accuracy as good as 10 feet for the P365, and many independent shooters and reviewers have seen results well over that. This makes it ideal for self-defense, as well as competitive and recreational shooting.
