Ruger 10/22 Tactical: A Comprehensive Review

The Ruger 10/22 Tactical is one of the leading semi-automatic rifles on the market today. Manufactured by the William B. Ruger Company, it has been an iconic and extremely popular firearm since it first entered the civilian market in 1964. The 10/22 has seen several iterations over the years, but the Tactical version brings a host of features to the table that make it stand out from the pack. From its aesthetic appeal and top-notch ergonomics to its accuracy and reliability, the Ruger 10/22 Tactical is an excellent choice for any shooter, whether you’re a recreational plinker, competitive shooter, or tactical professional.

Design & Aesthetics

The 10/22 Tactical has a classic look that is at once recognizable and timeless. Its short length (36.75 inches) and streamlined profile gives it a unique and appealing aesthetic, which has been a hallmark of the 10/22 series for decades. The Tactical version of the 10/22 also comes with a few unique features, including an ATI Strikeforce folding stock, TRUGLO fiber optic sights, and a threaded endcap for installing a muzzle device. These features add a more modern look and feel to the gun without compromising its classic appeal.

Ergonomics

Ergonomics are often overlooked when evaluating firearms, but they are crucial for a comfortable and enjoyable shooting experience. Fortunately, the Ruger 10/22 Tactical does not disappoint in this area. The gun is lightweight (4.75 pounds unloaded) and well-balanced, making it easy to carry and handle. Its well-designed stock gives it excellent shoulder-to-gun fit, with the added bonus of the side-folding ATI stock making it even easier to stow away and transport. The gun is also equipped with soft recoil pad, making it comfortable to shoot even for extended periods of time.

Performance & Reliability

Performance and reliability are perhaps the two most important aspects of any firearm. Fortunately, the Ruger 10/22 Tactical excels in both areas. The Tactical version of the gun uses a standard 10/22 receiver constructed of a durable aluminum alloy. This makes it highly resistant to corrosion and wear. The gun’s trigger is adjustable and offers a clean, crisp break with minimal creep. The gun also features a cold-hammer forged barrel which provides excellent accuracy out to a distance of 50 yards.

The Ruger 10/22 Tactical is fed by either a 10- or 25-round magazine–the former is ideal for recreational shooting and the latter for competitive or tactical applications. In our tests, the gun functioned flawlessly and cycled both types of magazines without issue. Additionally, we observed no malfunctions or jams during our evaluation, which is a testament to its build quality and reliability.

Price & Availability

The Ruger 10/22 Tactical has an MSRP of $411 and is widely available online and in most gun stores. The gun is reasonably priced, especially considering its build quality and reliability. Additionally, the 10/22 platform is an extremely popular choice among shooters, making spare parts and accessories easy to find.

Conclusion

The Ruger 10/22 Tactical is an excellent choice for any shooter. Its classic aesthetics, top-notch ergonomics, reliability, and affordability make it a top choice among recreational and competitive shooters alike. Whether you’re looking for a rifle for weekend plinking or a competition-level piece for tactical applications, the 10/22 Tactical is a reliable and cost-effective option.
