The Dakota is an extremely reliable handgun. I have fired over 5,000 rounds with no malfunction or stoppage—not even a single stoppage. This is impressive for any handgun and it really speaks to the reliability of the Dakota.
The frame is made of polymer and is lightweight and strong. It has a nice, ergonomic feel to it. The grip is comfortable, as are the checkered controls. The slide is contoured for a comfortable grip and has an aggressive texture that provides an excellent grip and allows you to draw it from a holster quickly.
The gun’s single-stack magazine holds twelve rounds of 9mm ammunition and although it is relatively small, it never gave me any problems with feeding. There is also an extended magazine option that holds fifteen rounds. The sights are fixed, three-dot style which are easy to acquire in different lighting conditions.
The trigger pull on the Dakota is very smooth. It has a pleasing, tactile, and audible reset that one feels each time a round is fired. The reset is crisp, and the trigger pull weight is approximately four pounds, although it can be adjusted for a lighter or heavier pull.
The overall fit and finish of the Dakota is impressive. The frame is precisely machined and has tight tolerances. The barrel, slide, and frame all lock together securely when in battery. The tight fit also helps with accuracy and consistency.
The Dakota is an extremely accurate handgun. The barrel has a super-polished and fitted crown, and the slide has been recessed to protect it from wear. This combines to create tight groups. I have shot five-shot groups at 25 yards that range from 1.5 to 2 inches. I have also shot five-shot groups at 12 yards that are clustered in a tiny 0.5-inch area.
The Dakota performs well in a number of additional aspects, too. It has a low leg sweep when firing, which is great in a combat situation or for CCW. It is also light and easy to maneuver which makes it great for home defense. Finally, it has a solid mil-spec finish that is highly resistant to corrosion and wear.
Overall, I would highly recommend the Dakota from Intercontinental Arms Inc. It is an excellent pistol for people looking for a reliable gun with superb accuracy and a good trigger. It is a great all-around shooting experience and one of the best guns in its class.
